Aims & Scope

Aims. The Journal of Advanced Ferrous Technologies (JAFT) is an international, peer-reviewed forum for advancing the science, engineering and practice of iron and steel — connecting the researchers developing the next generation of ferrous technologies with the engineers proving them at plant scale.

Scope. JAFT welcomes original work across the full iron and steel value chain. We consider submissions spanning, but not limited to, process metallurgy, materials and product development, plant operations and optimization, instrumentation and control, data-driven manufacturing, energy and emissions, circular-economy and by-product valorization, and the techno-economic, safety and policy dimensions of steel. We particularly encourage work that crosses boundaries — including from authors who do not typically publish academically but whose plant-floor results advance the field.

What makes a strong fit

JAFT is best suited to work with a clear technical contribution and a clear relevance to the iron and steel sector. The strongest submissions tend to share:

  • A defined contribution — a new mechanism, method, result, or critical synthesis.
  • A ferrous connection — adjacent topics (non-ferrous, ferro-alloys, refractory, economics, policy) are welcome where the contribution connects clearly to iron and steel.
  • Evidence behind the claims — data, modelling, or documented plant experience; commercially sensitive details may be anonymised.
