Mission

JAFT exists to advance both the science and the practice of iron and steel. Its mission is to publish rigorous, peer-reviewed work that bridges academic research and industrial reality — giving researchers, plant engineers, and industrial practitioners a single, credible venue where scholarly rigour and real-world, plant-scale experience meet and strengthen one another.

What makes JAFT different

Most metallurgy journals serve either pure academia or trade publications. JAFT is built for the gap between them — where plant engineers, R&D scientists, and industrial consultants need rigorous peer-reviewed work that engages with real-world process constraints. Industrial Case Studies are a first-class article type, with submission requirements designed to handle plant context, KPIs, and commercial confidentiality. Authors may anonymise plant and company details where commercially sensitive.

Access & charges

JAFT operates a hybrid access model. Authors may choose to publish their article open access — free to all readers under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 (CC‑BY‑4.0) licence — by paying the article processing charge (APC). Articles published without the open-access option are available to readers on a subscription or pay-per-view basis. The APC is tiered by author category — ₹3,000 + GST for students, ₹7,500 + GST for academic authors, and ₹30,000 + GST for industry; invited papers are exempt.

Editorial structure

JAFT is led by an Editor-in-Chief supported by Associate Editors covering each of the journal's 8 thematic sections, a Statistical & Methods Advisor, and an Industry Advisory Panel of senior practitioners from the steel industry. The editorial board is currently being constituted; appointments will be announced before the first issue is published.

Identifiers & discoverability

JAFT is a newly established journal preparing its inaugural issue. An ISSN and article DOIs (registered through CrossRef) will be assigned as the journal launches, and published articles will be made discoverable through Google Scholar and major search engines.
